After John Cherundoloâ??s gastric bypass surgery, his doctor told him it added 20 years to his life.

There were too many complications from his Type 2 diabetes, which had advanced from a daily pill to daily insulin injections. He also was suffering from high blood pressure and high cholesterol. His best option was bariatric surgery, otherwise known as gastric bypass.
A 15-year study at Swedenâ??s Sahlgrenska University Hospital, released in the New England Journal of Medicine last summer concluded that severely obese gastric bypass patients were 56 percent less likely to die from heart disease than the severely obese who did not have the surgery, and 92 percent less likely to die from diabetes-related causes.
